GUWAHATI, Feb 4 : The State government has entrusted the Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Assam, with the job of investigating into the large-scale financial irregularities in the Assam Livestock and Poultry Corporation. Centre releases Rs 37 cr for State rural sector

NEW DELHI, Feb 4— The Rural Development Ministry has released funds to the tune of over Rs 37.51 crore under two schemes including drinking water scheme to Assam. Reform panel for phase-wise reduction in grants to colleges, varsities

Reforms panel recommends disinvestment of 16 State PSUs

GUWAHATI, Jan 22— The Committee on Fiscal Reforms (COFR) has identified 16 State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for immediate disinvestment for their ‘accumulating huge losses, eroding their net worth completely and leaving no economic relevance under the present scenario’. Assam Govt heading towards a debt-trap

GUWAHATI, Jan 18— Over the years the outstanding debt of the State Government has grown enormously and the problem of indebtedness has taken a menacing shape. The total debt stock of the State Government, which was Rs 733.34 crore in 1980-81, increased to Rs 10,013.12 crore by 2000-01. The share of total debt stock in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), which was 29 per cent, reached the peak of 41 per cent in 1990-91 and thereafter declined to 24 per cent in 1995-96, but rose to 33 per cent in 2000-01, said the Committee On Fiscal Reforms (COFR) in its report.
