Nagaland to breed bison

Kohima, March 7: Nagaland has planned captive breeding of mithun, the wild bison found in the hilly reaches of the Northeast, and set up state-of-the-art abattoirs to process and package the meat for marketing.

Kohima, Feb. 16: Villagers in a Nagaland hamlet have advertised for hired hunters to slaughter sinister ?jackals? even as wildlife activists claim that the menacing animals might not be jackals at all.

Sendenyu village in Kohima district has announced a reward of Rs 1,000 for every jackal killed. The villagers alleged that groups of eight to 10 of these ?jackals? had posed threat to other endangered animals in the ?wildlife protected area? within the village.

Elephants to check into new homes

New Delhi, Feb. 5: Elephant conservation in the Northeast is set to get a boost with the decision to establish a few more reserves in the region. While the proposals for two ? Forest cover in Nagaland shows remarkable increase courtesy NEPED

KOHIMA, August 1: The 24 MW Likhimro hydel power project in the Tuensang district of Nagaland is likely to be commissioned by March next year, according to Nagaland power minister K Therie.
