Kohima Police foil NSCN (I-M) ultras' bid to extort money

DIMAPUR, May 13 ? By arresting five NSCN-IM activists, including a female while they were extorting money from businessmen of the state capital, Kohima Police have not only got a breakthrough into the extortion racket but also found vital clues of vehicle lifting incidents, which have become the reason for sleepless nights for many vehicle owners. According to Superintendent of Police, Kohima I Toshitsungba Aier, police receovered a 9 mm Taiwan make pistol with 6 rounds, 29 counterfoils of demand notes/ receipts of the Angami region of GPRN besides few fake number plates (NL 10 1061, NL 01C 4239, NL 02 4307 and NL 03 3249) and vehicle documents used in stealing vehicles. The arrested persons, all from NSCN-IM have been identified as ?ss Pvt? James Poumai son of John Poumai of Phiphong village; ?ss Sgt? Jonthant Poumai alias Aso, son of Yarkao of Manju both under Senapati district of Manipur, ?ss Corporal? Johny Rongmai, son of Athong Kushu of Nonnei village under Tamenglong district, Manipur; ?ss pvt? Mughaka Achumi, son of Vihezhe of Ghokuvi village under Satoi sub-division of Zunheboto district and ?ss pvt? Renthunglo Murry, daughter of Nyamo Murry of Pangti village under Sungro sub-division of Wokha district both of Nagaland. The accused were involved in 20 different cases of vehicle theft, extortion from businessmen and different offices under Kohima police station, the SP said. Earlier, police also seized a white Maruti van (NL 01T 5083) for not possessing documents during routine frisking from ?ss sgt major? Lanumeren of Merangkong village under Mokokchung district, ?ss corporal? Toshika Awomi of Tiyekhu village under Zunheboto district, both from the NSCN-IM, Asangla, junior accountant, south treasury Kohima and Moasangla, doing her computer studies with NIIT, Kohima. Lanumeren and Toshika were involved in six cases of extortion registered under police stations of Kohima, the duo is also involved in lifting of vehicles.
