TURA, June 1 ? The extent to which the banned NDFB has managed to penetrate inside Garo Hills was revealed following the arrest of a Wireless Operator of the Meghalaya Police Radio Organisation (MPRO) at Tura on Wednesday night. The arrest has portrayed a chilling picture of what could have happened had his cover not been blown. The MPRO deals with police communication and can monitor conversations and movement of police officers and personnel. The Garo Hills police had been tipped off by their Assam counterparts about a strong NDFB connection at Tura following the killing of nine NDFB militants in Assam recently. Some Muslim women were also arrested in this connection in Assam and they reportedly spilled the beans on the outfit?s operations in Garo Hills. The Tura police had raided the homes of Osir Sangma, Sisir Sangma, Birendra Sangma and Mukesh Sangma at Dakopgre on Sunday last and seized some dairies which contained names and telephone numbers of suspicious characters. One of the numbers belonged to Jugananda Hajong, the MPRO Operator who was posted at Tura Peak MPRO Station. Mr Hajong was brought from his station to Tura for interrogation on Wednesday and he ultimately confessed to his links with the banned outfit.
