KOHIMA, June 14 – Taking exception to the letter by senior Congress leaders of the North- east to the Centre, Naga NGOs have charged former chief minister S C Jamir and the other signatories with ‘sabotaging’ the ongoing peace process at a time when the Nagas were hoping for an early settlement of the protracted political conflict through dialogue, reports PTI. Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) and Naga Mothers Association (NMA) condemned the Congress leaders’ stand on the ongoing peace process and their insistence on declaring NSCN(I-M) as a terrorist organisation.
Alleging that Jamir, now Nagaland PCC president, was the key man behind the letter, the NGOs’ leaders told newsmen he had been the ‘stumbling block’ in the peace process. The letter dubbed as ‘secret document’ was signed by former Congress chief ministers S C Jamir (Nagaland), Reishang Keishang (Manipur), Mukut Mithi (Arunachal Pradesh) and Lalthanhawla (Mizoram) among others and submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently.
The NGOs said Jamir’s views should not be accommodated by the new UPA government at the Centre while dealing with the Naga political problem as he had lost the mandate and respect of the Naga people. A delegation of the three NGOs would soon leave for New Delhi to apprise Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and others concerned of the need for expediting the peace process for an early settlement of the Naga problem.
