Kohima, March 21: The Khaplang faction of the NSCN today clarified that it had not received any fresh feelers for parleys from New Delhi, as reported in the media, though it has been receiving such proposals since the Nineties.
Deputy kilonser of the outfit Kughalu Mulatonu told The Telegraph that despite the willingness of leaders of both the factions of the NSCN (Isak-Muivah and Khaplang) to begin talks on unity, the issue was in the dock because of “some people in Dimapur”.
“Some people do not want us to unite despite willingness on part of the collective leadership. These are the anti-peace campaigners,” Mulatonu alleged. He however, did not name anyone. He said the outfit was ready for unity.
On not beginning talks with the Centre despite feelers, he said: “Since we cannot have two or three settlements, we are preparing for ways to bring unity”.
Mulatonu, however, said that the NSCN (I-M) should go public with the talks they had with the Centre this January. “Even their vice-chairman does not know about the talks. Isak and Muivah cannot bring about any settlement unless all are involved,” he said.
The two outfits have been at loggerheads since 1988. The Naga Hoho and the Church have been campaigning for unity among the factions to bring about a lasting settlement to the Naga imbroglio.
