NSCN(IM) letting loose a reign of terror, alleges NNC

DIMAPUR, June 21 – The NNC’s self-styled Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) has expressed concern over the deplorable situation in the state saying that the common people are living in the grip of terror. The NNC said that the NSCN-IM cadres were freely moving around in several parts of the state creating terror and extorting money from poor villagers. “Our people are unable to stand up to assert their rights but have to suffer as silent lambs with calm resignation in the hands of destructive forces and elements alien to Naga way of life. Today the NSCN-IM portrays that image very clearly under their camouflage of Naga nationalism and show off,” NNC’s Tatar Peshou said in a release.

Peshou also stated that the fear was aggravated because the government and the ceasefire monitoring cell was simply turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to all the daylight terrors which are taking place at their very doorsteps. “Otherwise what can be the reason behind their silence and act of ignorance when they are utterly failing to even voice a word to protect the people by condemning and checking the nefarious activities,” he asked in anger.

The NNC leader also said that “ in the latest situation in Chakhesang region, hundreds of armed NSCN-IM cadres freely roam every nook and corner of the region carrying out their mission of extortion and terrorism in every village openly in front of the so-called law enforcing agencies.”He said that if the state government and the ceasefire monitors did nothing to check these activities, then it was true that rules and laws are framed and enacted only to be violated and not obeyed. “This is what is happening in Tuensang and Mon and other regions of Nagaland today. Perhaps, the present cease-fire is simply meant for this purpose,” he added.

“In the present circumstance, people belonging to different state political parties may be pointing at one another with accusing fingers, but what difference does it make. The Congress regime advocates equi-distance and the DAN government advocates equi-closeness with all factions. Where is the transparency behind these slogans for the people to see and judge for themselves?” he asked. Peshou said that it is up to the Government of India to sign any agreement with NSCN-IM or any outfit “because it will simply be a wastage of time.”
