Opp against extension of ceasefire in Manipur

IMPHAL, January 20: Opposition parties in Manipur are going to oppose any move of the Central Government regarding extension of ceasefire between the Government of India and the banned National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) in any part of Manipur. A delegation of the Manipur Democratic Front (MDF), the combined front of the Opposition of the State, will pressurise the Centre not to extend the ceasefire agreement to any Naga-inhabited areas of Manipur. This was informed by the leaders of the Opposition during a press conference hold at the Speaker's bungalow on Friday evening. The Opposition leaders stated that the whole Opposition group strongly opposed such a move and had resolved to form a delegation of MDF to meet the Central ministers in this regard shortly. It may be mentioned here that the Joint Secretary of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, GK Pillai, had said a few days back that the joint meeting of the Chief Ministers of all the Northeastern States would be convened to finalise the modalities of the extension of the ceasefire to all the Naga-inhabited areas of the Northeast.
