ULFA favours plebiscite over Assam sovereignty demand

GUWAHATI, February 26: The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa has said his organisation favours a plebiscite in Assam to decide once and for all whether the people support his outfit's demand for sovereignty or prefer to stay with India. KAAC chairman's house attacked

DIPHU, February 25: The chairman of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Daniel Teron's house was attacked by suspected militants of the United Peoples' Democratic Solidarity last night, official sources said here. A group of about 10 to 12 militants came last night to Teron's house and opened indiscriminate firing. Teron, who was inside the house, and other family members were not injured, but the house suffered partial damage. Security has been strengthened around Teron's house and the police has launched a massive combing operation in the area to nab the militants, the sources said.

Over 20,000 bighas of govt land under TEs' encroachment

GUWAHATI, February 25: The tea estates in the State are illegally occupying altogether 20,267 bigha, 2 katha and 8 lechas of Government land and the State Government has been initiating a legal process to free plots of land from the encroachment of the tea estates, said Revenue Minister Zoii Nath Sarma on the floor of the State Assembly recently.
