Tipaimukh dam will be constructed: Phungzathang

Imphal, Febuary 15: The Power minister Phungzathang Tonsing today appealed to all without to cooperate with the government in construction of the Tipaimukh dam project so that the state could benefit from the project. Out of the 1500 MW of power the state government will be getting 12 percent of power free he said. The government will not construct the dam without considering the ecological, environmental and all other aspects he assured. The government will properly conduct survey so that people will not have any grievances. Compensation will be given equally to all the people affected he said. The government of Manipur has already signed the agreement and the NEEPCO will be undertaking the project. We should think for the future and we should not try to disturb the developmental works taken Up for the state he said. If any project is taken up somebody are bound to be affected he pointed out. Even people are evicted in the heart of the city if any government works are to be taken up he said. People of Churachandpur will be more affected and the people are not saying anything he said. They feel that if the project is for the good of the people it there is nothing wrong in taking up the project he further pointed out. Some groups from Tamenglong district are protesting he said. They should not do so if they think for the state and the people he pointed out. There will be going back he emphatically said. The government of India has financial constraints and the project is approved as the state legislature had passed a bill to construct the dam he informed. As a sign of respect to the state legislature considered to be the will and decision of the people the centre decided to sanction the money he said. Movements of power staffs are made impossible for some groups who demand money it was pointed out according to some officials of the Power department. All have been urged not to disturb their movement so that repair works can be taken up. The government has decided to start providing power to all the border areas he said. The entire border areas will be electrified Phungzathang assured. The department is giving 5 percent of the total amount collected to all who collects Power revenue he said. The people should come forward and clear the dues so that the power situation can be improved. The Leimakhong heavy fuel project is functioning properly he said. It is functioning as a standby in case other projects fail he said.
