SHILLONG, Aug 23 ? Social activists in the North East are up in arms against the construction of mega dams in the region claiming it would bring ?untold suffering and land alienation among the indigenous poeple,? reports PTI. Ibobi admits failure on prohibition

Imphal, June 17: Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh today admitted on the floor of the Assembly that his government’s attempts to lift prohibition from the state had come a cropper, despite enacting a legislation. Packaged drinking water without BIS tag banned in Manipur

IMPHAL,June 12 – Invoking provisions of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules 1955, the state authority has banned with immediate effect all packaged drinking water/mineral water that does not have the tags of Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) certificates. State Health Director Ch Chandramani issued an order in this regard on Monday notifying closure of all the mineral water bottling plants in the state which do not possess BIS certificates.

Manipur seeks Rs 14,000 cr from 12th finance panel

IMPHAL, June 1 – With the stated objective of reaping the maximum benefits from the 12th Finance Commission, the State Government has approached the Commission to earmark a sum of Rs 14,000 crore for the State in the next five year Plan, which will come into effect from April next year and to set aside Rs 1000 crore to enable the State face its peculiar problems. Imphal rail line in five years

Imphal, March 7: The 100-km long Jiribam-Tupul broadgauge railway line will be completed within five years. Disclosing this at a news conference here on Friday evening, Vipan Nanda, general manager, Northeast Frontier Railway, said the time schedule can be maintained only if militants do not disturb the ongoing work.

Relief hitch in highway diversion

Kohima, Feb. 2: The Nagaland government has proposed an 80-km diversion in the Dimapur-Imphal highway before making it a four-lane one.

Prime Minster Atal Bihari Vajpayee had announced a more than Rs 400-crore project to upgrade the National Highway 39, commonly known as Dimapur-Imphal highway here, during his visit to the state in October last year.
