MPP to have alliance with six parties

IMPHAL, July 17: The Manipur People's Party (MPP), the oldest regional party in the entire northeastern region has decided to have an alliance with six other parties in the state during the forthcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. A high-level committee meeting of the MPP was also held in this connection on Thursday evening at its party office here. AGSP yet to decide on LS poll

GUWAHATI, July 17: The newly-formed Asom Gana Sangram Parishad (AGSP) is not yet decided whether to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha election or not. The president-in-chief of the regional political party, Jatindra Kumar Borgohain informed that the party will not be able to take a final decision on the election till the meeting of the party's district representatives is not held. The meeting is likely to be held by August 20 next. The process of constitution of the district party committee will be over by August 15 next.

53 dead of viral diseases in Nagaland district

KOHIMA, July 17: At least 53 people have died so far of viral diseases like malaria and typhoid in Changki village of Mokokchung district in Nagaland. Official sources said the Changki, Longjang and Longsa areas of Mokokchung district and Tizit area of Mon district were the worst affected areas where the epidemic was spreading fast. Similar types of viral fever were also reported from Wokha, Phek and Dimapur districts. But, the situation in Changki village was the most alarming where the diseases had taken an epidemic form.

Good price for Meghalaya cashewnuts

GUWAHATI, July 17: Cashewnut growers of Meghalaya are a happy lot today. After a long time, this year they could sell raw cashew nuts at a steady price over Rs 42 per kilogram.
