Manipur outfits told to stop extortion

Imphal, Jan. 1: The Manipur People’s Liberation Front (MPLF) has called on all concerned organisations to discontinue demanding donations and taking “extortions” from public in the name of armed movement from January 15 this year. The MPLF is an umbrella organisation of Manipur’s three major insurgent outfits — the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak) and the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF).

NCERT bid to project NE heritage

NEW DELHI, Jan 2 —— Notwithstanding the controversy generated by the new National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks for allegedly deviating from the secular line, history, culture and heritage of the North East Region in a break from the past, is likely to find place in the new textbooks.

UNICEF refusing to aid police probe in Assam

GUWAHATI, Jan 2 — The UNICEF refused to cooperate with the police enquiry into the cause of deaths of 23 children after a pulse vitamin A immunisation programme in Assam on November 11, 2001. This was stated by the Inspector General of Police (CID), Sri S P Kar in his report to the Gauhati High Court.
