GUWAHATI, Dec 27 — While the Chinese dragon is creating ripples in the rest of the country with its flood of consumer goods, it is Bangladesh which is giving the processed food industry in the North East a run for its money. And Bangladeshi goods are emerging the winners. Bangladeshi potato wafers, bhujia, chanachur, fruit juice and mineral water is flooding the North East markets leaving the local industry gasping for breath. Not long ago, it was the North Eastern producers which were exporting such products to Bangladesh.

Projects to tame Asam flood fury cleared

NEW DELHI, Dec 27—With the floods just a season away, the Centre has cleared several flood control and anti-crosion projects including a proposal to protect Dhubri and South Salamara areas. The projects sanctioned by the Planning Commission in the past few days are expected to be completed by March 2004. According to sources, the latest in a series of projects cleared by the commission included raising of Brahmaputra dyke from Biswanath to Panpur at an estimated cost of Rs 4.87 crore. GUWAHATI, Dec 27 — Legendary folk singer Pratima Pandey Baruah whose singular efforts were instrumental in according Goalporia lokageet (folk songs of Goalpara district) its rightful status, is no more. KYKL to execute five on December 31
