Kuki group claims responsibility for ambush

IMPHAL, May 29 ? Underground Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA), which has ?close links? with NSCN (I-M), Wednesday claimed responsibility for the Monday last ambush in which 11 Assam Rifles personnel had been killed at Leplan area in Manipur?s Ukhrul district, reports PTI. A caller identified as one Rocky Kuki, information secretary of KRA, said its cadres had attacked and killed the Assam Rifles personnel. Foreign routes of ULFA identified

GUWAHATI, May 29 ? Foreign connections of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) are now well known facts but on the basis of interrogation reports of the militants who were arrested or surrendered in recent years, security forces have pinpointed more than 40 routes commonly used by the cadres of the outfit to visit their foreign bases. Centre sanctions Rs 33 cr to boost NE exports

GUWAHATI, May 29 ? Centre has decided to sanction Rs 33 crore for the North East in order to upgrade export infrastructure in the entire region. Highly placed official sources today said that the funds would be spent in the seven States of the region to upgrade the existing infrastructure and the border trade points. It may be recalled that the Centre has sanctioned over Rs 300 crore for upgrading infrastructure, of which 10 per cent will be spent specially in the North East with an eye to give a boost to exports with the neighbouring countries.

Eviction drive in Kaziranga

GUWAHATI, May 29 ? Authorities of Kaziranga National Park (KNP) started eviction drive to root out encroachers from the park as part of the statewide drive launched by the Forest Department in compliance with Supreme Court directive. Sources in KNP informed that the eviction drive was launched in the sixth addition of the National Park since yesterday in Maite and Keteng chaporis (riverine landmass) and so far 24 cattleshed have been evicted. The eviction drive will continue till the KNP in made free of all sorts of encroachers.
