Arunachal against ceding land to greater Nagaland

ITANAGAR, Feb 1 ? Arunachal Pradesh has opposed the inclusion of some parts of the state territory in greater Nagalim. However it made it clear that the government is not against the peace talks between New Delhi and NSCN (IM) leaders. "The State government is not against the peace process which should be within the ambit of the territory of Nagaland and within the framework of Indian Constitution", Takam Sanjoy Minister, Education and government spokesman told media persons, on Friday.

Sanjoy emphatically stated that not a single inch of land of Arunachal Pradesh would be parted with. He informed that the State Assembly had adopted a resolution unanimously in September last to maintain territorial integrity of the state at all cost and opposed any move to extend the Naga territory. This was conveyed to the President, the Prime minister, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. The minister further said that the Government of India has also clearly assured that no forthcoming solution of the Naga peace process would disturb the territorial integrity of any other state of North East. He reiterated that involvement of any part of the territory of Arunachal Pradesh would be suicidal and invite more problems to the Nation.

Sanjoy further said that the council of ministers at its meeting on July 1, 2001, which was attended by all, had clearly opposed tooth and nail the extention of ceasefire to any part of the territory of Arunachal Pradesh after it was announced by the Centre. He said that Arunachal Pradesh had never opposed the transfer of Tuensang district which was carved out of the erstwhile NEFA without consultations with the people, which was a Himalayan blunder. Sanjoy also refuted the claim of NSCN (IM) general Secretary T. Muivah that all tribes of Arunachal Pradesh were Nagas adding that it was baseless in regards to the history and geneology . He further said that the demand of L. Wanglat, a sitting (Cong I) MLA for inclusion of a few of the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh in the Naga peace process was purely Wanglat?s individual stand and the State government had got nothing to do with it.

However Sanjoy said the statement of Wanglat claiming the support of elected representatives of Tirap and Changlang districts was baseless and nothing but an attempt to tornish the image of those leaders who had unanimously spelt out their stand in the Council of Ministers? meeting on July 1 last year and on other occasions. On the issue of increasing crime rate in the State, Sanjoy said that the people should cooperate with the police and administration to maintain the law and order. He informed that the government had also decided to give training to the Scouts and guides from the schools on the rules and regulations of traffic laws and replace the police during the off periods and help the administration in traffic and security matters.
