Arunachal militant groups come under one platform, to join mainstream

GUWAHATI, June 27 – All rebel groups of Arunachal Pradesh have come together on a common platform to join the mainstream under the leadership of KH Tara, chairman, National Liberation Front of Arunachal, informed B Dollung, publicity secretary, NALFA, said.

Expressing gratitude to the cadres for coming to the mainstream and accepting the Constitution, Tara exhorted them to work for unity, integrity and fraternity among the people of the State.

Buddhists being ‘harassed’ by Army, ultras

GUWAHATI, June 9 – The Buddhist community of the North-east region has expressed deep concern over the growing incidents of harassment and persecution of the Buddhist tribals by the militants and the security forces as well in the remote areas of Arunachal Pradesh. The Purvanchal Bhikkhu Sangha, in a statement received here recently, said that the militant outfits NSCN (IM) and the NSCN (K) had demanded annexure of the land belonging to the Buddhists and other indigenous people of Rima Putak, Thikhak Putak, Motongsa and Longchong villages in Tirap Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh.

Arunachal outfit joins no-poll cry

Dimapur, April 30: The election scene in Arunachal Pradesh turned murkier with the militant National Liberation Front of Arunachal backing the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU)’s call for a boycott of the Lok Sabha poll to protest the inclusion of Chakma and Hajong refugees in the electoral rolls.

In a statement today, the militant group’s chairman, K.H. Tara, appealed to the people of the state to support the AAPSU. “Time has come to teach the Indian government a lesson,” he said.

Ulfa eyes base in Arunachal

Miao, March 1: After the NSCN, Arunachal Pradesh police are gearing up to tackle the growing menace of the Ulfa in the state. Sources said a 40-member group of the Ulfa has begun serving extortion notes to businessmen, schoolteachers and government employees, particularly in the Bordumsa sub-division of Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

?Extortion notes demanding upto Rs 5 lakh have been served on the people and the copies we received were all on the Ulfa letterhead,? said a senior police official of the district. Till date, however, nobody has paid up, the officer added.

Dragon Force raises hackles of Arunachal govt

New Delhi, June 13: The activities of a little known insurgent outfit have raised the hackles of the Arunachal Pradesh government. The Centre has been apprised and requested to provide assistance to rein in the rebels.

Arunachal minister held for nexus with NSCN

ITANAGAR, May 2— Arunachal Pradesh Minister for Rural Works Department Tingpong Wangham and a former minister T L Rajkumar were arrested by police under Arunachal Pradesh Control of Organised Crime Act, 2002 for their alleged nexus with ultras of NSCN factions active in Tirap and Changlang districts, official sources said.
