Addl forces sought: NE move raises queries in MHA

NEW DELHI, March 4 ? Demand for 512 companies of Central para-military forces by the three north eastern States of Assam, Manipur and Tripura, has raised questions in the Ministry of Home Affairs. The claim that violence in the North-east is on the wane runs contrary to the Government?s claim if the demand for additional forces by the three of the region?s worst insurgency affected States is any indication. ATTF attack foiled in Tripura

AGARTALA, Feb 14 – Assam Rifles’ jawans have foiled an attack by the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) on their camp in West Tripura district Tuesday night, official sources said Wednesday. Spokesman of Assam Rifles’ Maj AJ Singh told newsmen that a group of 10 to 15 insurgents opened fire at the camp at village Ratanpur which was retaliated by the jawans and the ensuing gunbattle lasted five minutes.
