Lapang pounces on Sangma rebel link

Shillong, Feb. 5: Meghalaya chief minister D.D. Lapang has accused former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A. Sangma of ?conniving? with militants to hold his own in Meghalaya politics.

Reacting to the open appeal by the Garo Hills-based outfit, the Achik National Volunteers? Council (ANVC), asking voters to support Sangma and his party in the February 12 district council elections, Lapang told the media today that the plea undoubtedly proved a close and clandestine link. ?It has proved beyond doubt that Sangma is involved with the ANVC,? Lapang said.

Garo outfit green signal for peace talks

Tura, Feb. 2: Breaking its silence over the Centre and the Meghalaya government?s peace overtures, the banned Achik National Volunteers Council (ANVC) today said it was finally ready for talks.

In an e-mail to The Telegraph, its chairman Dilash Marak, alias Susime Marak, said a five-member delegation was constituted at the executive committee?s meeting on January 10 to finalise the modalities for peace talks.

This is the first clear statement by the ANVC chief, believed to be in Bangladesh, on the Centre and the Meghalaya government?s offer to hold a dialogue with the militant group.

HNLC ultras being trained in Bangla

SHILLONG, Jan 31 ? Cadres of the banned militant outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) of Meghalaya are trained in different camps in Bangladesh and have close links with a Khasia association of the neighbouring country, a senior police official said here today, reports PTI.

Meghalaya govt open to Land Transfer Act amendment

The Meghalaya Government is open to the proposal for suitable amendments to the Land Transfer Act in order to facilitate real estate transaction among the indigenous non-tribal residents of the State. NCP split jolt to Sangma

Shillong, Dec. 15: In a jolt to Meghalaya strongman P.A. Sangma, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) split in the state today. Chief minister D.D.
