4 children killed in Manipur school blast

IMPHAL, April 26 ? Four children were killed and four others injured when a bomb exploded inside a school compound in Manipur today, official sources said, reports PTI. The bomb, planted by unknown persons, went off at 11.40 am at a school compound at Hangeipat area under Saikul police station in Senapati district killing four children on the spot. Four others sustained grievous injuries, sources said. They were admitted to J N Hospital here while the bodies were sent for post mortem. Police launched a combing operation to find out the culprits but no arrest was made so far.

Asam Sahitya Sabha to remake Joymati

The Asam Sahitya Sabha has postponed its proposed agitation scheduled to begin from May 18 next, on the issue of implementation of the State Language Act, in view of the State Government?s forming an eight-member advisory committee to study the problems and recommend measures for implementation of the Act.

Survey of terrorism victims' kin in Assam

GUWAHATI, April 25 ? The Assam Police, under the Project Aashwas, will soon launch a baseline survey of the trauma and requirements of the families of the victims of terrorism. Police sources said that a reputed agency has already been engaged to carry out the survey and the project will be financed by the UNICEF. Sources pointed out that so far no scientific survey of the trauma and needs of the victims of terrorism was carried out in the State. The survey will take at least a year.

Few Assamese books get their entries in National Bibliography

GUWAHATI, April 18 ? Only a number of Assamese books can be covered by the National Bibliography, compiled, edited and published by the Central Reference Library, Kolkata, since 1958. The Bibliography has the records of the books published in 15 Indian languages, including English. Other than Assamese, books published in NE languages could not be listed by the Central Reference Library (CRL) in the Bibliography. Historian HK Barpujari passes away

GUWAHATI, April 16 ? Renowned historian and former president of the Indian History Congress Dr Heramba Kanta Barpujari is no more. The renowned historian who was honoured by the Asam Sahitya Sabha in 1997 with the title ?Itihas Acharjya?, passed away at his Rajgarh Road residence here at 7.05 pm today due to old-age ailments. He was 89. Born on August 31, 1912, Dr Barpujari dedicated his life to historical research and academic activities. It was his single handed effort which brought recognition to the North East region, and particularly Assam from the historians of other parts of the world.
