Cells to probe sexual harrassment charges

KOHIMA, March 13: The Nagaland Government has constituted complaint cells for sexual harrassment of women at their work places in accordance with guidelines and norms prescribed by the Supreme Court, reports PTI. Pox and pneumonia claim 20 lives in Nagaland district

KOHIMA, March 1: The communicable diseases that claimed lives of at least 20 children at a border village in Nagaland's remote district had been brought under control, the district administration and Assam Rifles said, reports PTI. Steps taken to combat viral diseases in Nagaland

KOHIMA, August 5: The Nagaland health and family welfare minister, Neiba Ndang, today said that the government had taken every step to combat and prevent the epidemic outbreak of viral diseases along with malaria, typhoid, hepatitis and gastroenteritis in the state. Ndang told newspersons that in all 650 people died so far. Of them 470 had died in Mon, 120 in Mokokchung, 50 in Kohima and 10 in Tuensang district. Aos celebrate Tsungrem Mong

KOHIMA: August 1: The Aos are celebrating the weeklong "Tsungrem Mong" festival from Sunday. Tsungrem Mong, a pre-harvest festival, is the second biggest festival of the Ao tribe after the "Moatsu", which is celebrated in the first week of May. The significance of the festival is to pray for bountiful harvest. The weeklong festivities include colourful traditional dances, merry-making and community feasts.

Waterborne diseases claim 274 lives in Nagaland

KOHIMA, July 24 - Viral fever and water-borne diseases in Nagaland have claimed at least 274 lives in recent months, official sources said on Saturday. The state director of health services R Shaiza said the worst-affected areas were Mon, Mokokchung and Dimapur districts where the diseases were raging in an epidemic form. He said the diseases had claimed more than 150 people in Mon alone and 81 in Mokokchung. Forty-three people had died in Dimapur. Casualty figures from other parts of the state are yet to come in. However, unofficial figures put the toll at over 600.

37 per cent Nagas live below poverty line

KOHIMA, July 18 - Over 37 per cent of the total population of Nagaland live below the poverty line (BPL), according to official reports. The reports, quoting an assessment by an expert group constituted to implement the Centre's targeted public distribution system, said about 96,000 people of the state were living below poverty line (BPL). Under the BPL scheme, introduced by the Centre in 1997, each identified family was being provided with special cards to collect ten kg of grains per month at a specially subsidised rate. 53 dead of viral diseases in Nagaland district

KOHIMA, July 17: At least 53 people have died so far of viral diseases like malaria and typhoid in Changki village of Mokokchung district in Nagaland. Official sources said the Changki, Longjang and Longsa areas of Mokokchung district and Tizit area of Mon district were the worst affected areas where the epidemic was spreading fast. Similar types of viral fever were also reported from Wokha, Phek and Dimapur districts. But, the situation in Changki village was the most alarming where the diseases had taken an epidemic form.
