UGC seminar dwells on politics and reorganisation of NE

GUWAHATI, February 28: A seminar on 'Politics and Reorganisation of Northeast India' was held recently at Diphu Government College under the auspices of the university Grants Commission. It was organised by the Department of Political Science of which BC Bhuyan, Head of the Department, was the chief co-ordinator. Exhibition of traditional crafts of NE

SHILLONG, February 28: Rituals and traditional crafts of Northeast India urged highlighted in a three-day exhibition which concluded here on Wednesday at the State Central Library complex. The exhibition, organised by the Anthropological Survey of India, as part of the celebration of 50 years of India's Republic Day, focussed on the socio-cultural traditions of the numerous tribal and ethnic groups dotting the region. Hostel constructed at DU for Northeast students

Manipur moves SC over Bishnupriyas

DELHI, August 1: The Manipur government has moved the Supreme Court detailing the differences between Bishnupriyas and Manipuris over the recognition of Bishnupriyas as Other Backward Classes (OBCs) by the states of Assam and Tripura. The Manipur government has challenged the decision of the Guwahati High Court to include Bishnupriya Manipuris in the State list of OBCs saying the court has given the direction without going into the question whether such a community existed at all. Maximum AIDS cases in Maharashtra, TN and Manipur

New Delhi, July 15: As the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) continues to spread throughout India, the states of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Manipur together account for about three-fourth of the total AIDS cases in the country. Among the 7,475 AIDS cases reported in India in the last 13 years, Maharashtra has recorded 3,371 while 2,278 cases were reported from Tamil Nadu. During the same period, Manipur recorded 301 cases, according to the latest statistics available with the National Aids Control Organisation.

Guwahati, July 11: The Centre will soon take special measures to market tourism potentiality of the northeastern region abroad to attract foreign tourists, the Union minister of state for tourism Omak Apang said on Sunday.
