Bhutan says no to Red Cross role

GUWAHATI, Dec 23: Bhutan does not see the need for involvement of the International Committee of Red Cross at present in the evacuation of non-combatant women and children of the ULFA, NDFB and KLO camps, demolished in the operation against the outfits by its Army. Centre slashes aid to Assam

NEW DELHI, Dec 23: It is again bad news for Assam with the Central Government drastically slashing down its demand for assistance of Rs 1,134.45 crore to Rs 70 crore for relief and restoration work in the wake of floods this year. NLFT official faction faces pincer attack

Agartala, Dec. 22: In a new twist to the insurgency equations in Tripura, two outfits have taken on the most powerful faction. This is likely to trigger fresh factional clashes in interior areas. The Nayanbasi faction of the National Liberation Front of Tripura and the All Tripura Tiger Force have decided to gang up against the official group of the NLFT led by Biswamohan Debbarma.

HC directs State to hand over Erakdao to police

GUWAHATI, Dec 23 ? The Gauhati High Court has directed that NDFB publicity secretary B Erakdao and some other militants captured during operations in Bhutan be handed over to the nearest police station if they were in army custody. A Division Bench comprising Justice D Biswas and Justice I Ansari also directed the state government to immediately produce Erakdao before a magistrate within 24 hours. Bill to recognise Bodo language passed

NEW DELHI, Dec 23: Flooded with demands for recognition of languages under the Eight Schedule of the Constitution, the Government of India has decided to bring out a comprehensive list of languages in consultation with linguistic experts, Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani disclosed here today.
