Ibobi exiles dissenters to save ministry

Imphal, Dec. 21: As many as 10 Manipur ministers suspected to be disloyal to chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh have been temporarily banished from the state to prevent the BJP-led Opposition from staging a coup with their help. Jolted by the Democratic People?s Alliance (DPA)?s invitation to disgruntled members of the ruling coalition to join the oust-Ibobi campaign, the chief minister put seven ministers on a Calcutta-bound flight on Friday. Two more ministers joined them in the Bengal capital the next day.

Rhino saviour chosen Earth Hero

Kuki outfit?s peace call to rival group

Guwahati, Dec. 21: The Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) has urged the United People?s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) to revoke its war call against the Kukis in the twin hill districts of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills in Assam. A KRA statement said the Karbi outfit ?must first withdraw its statement on declaration of war on the Kukis?.

Ulfa contests capture claims

Guwahati, Dec. 21: Cornered by Bhutanese troops but apparently more angry with the Indian army, a frustrated Ulfa today said the armed forces on this side of the Indo-Bhutan border had launched a propaganda war to ?demoralise? its ranks.
