Meghalaya govt open to Land Transfer Act amendment

SHILLONG, Dec 17 ? The Meghalaya Government is open to the proposal for suitable amendments to the Land Transfer Act in order to facilitate real estate transaction among the indigenous non-tribal residents of the State. Stating that the interests of the permanent non-tribal residents cannot be ?sidelined,? Chief Minister DD Lapang urged the members of the Legislative Assembly, NGOs and political parties to come forward with suggestions for amending the Act.

Elephant depredation renders 25 families homeless

DIBRUGARH, Nov 19 ? 25 families of the Lezai-Sessa area, south-west of the city have been rendered homeless by a herd of wild elephants in the past few days. The affected families have been provided shelter at a relief camp, which was opened on Tuesday under the auspicious of a local NGO, Asom Bikash Mancha. Centre?s bid to evolve strategy to resolve tea crisis

Alarmed by the plight of the tea industry, the Commerce and Industry Ministry has endorsed an Opposition-sponsored proposal to convene a high-level meeting involving all players including the State Governments and representatives of the industry to evolve a strategy to resolve the present crisis. SHILLONG, DEC 19 ? The four NCP deserters who were inducted into the Lapang ministry on December 15 were allocated portfolios today in a major reshuffle in the nine-month-old coalition government. Six NCP members had deserted the party on December 15 and formed the Meghalaya NCP (MNCP) and extended support to the Cong-led coalition government.
