Frequent stir programmes hit NF Rly, passengers

GUWAHATI, June 3 ? Frequent agitational programmes like bandhs, rail roko agitations, picketing, dharna, obstructions etc in the last few years not only resulted in financial loss to the Railways but also affected the movement of people and goods to this backward region of the country.

According to records available with the NF Railway, the areas under the juridiction of this Railway witnessed 132 bandhs, 24 Rail Roko programmes, one picketing, 17 obstructions, 15 dharnas on the tracks etc in the year 2000. ASEB blames NEEPCO for power fluctuations

GUWAHATI, June 3? Power consumers in Assam have often suffered big losses with their electrical gadgets getting burnt out due to sudden power fluctuations. Consumers have often complained about their televisions, refrigerators, ACs, music systems and even bulbs and tubes being damaged. The power supplier, Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB), says it has no control over the fluctuations, laying the blame on the power generating utilities like NEEPCO.

NDFB chief stumbling block for peace talks

GUWAHATI, June 3 ? The efforts of the Central and State Governments to bring the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) to the negotiating table are yet to yield the desired results primarily because of the adamant attitude of the chairman of the outfit, Ranjan Daimary alias Nabla Daimary, highly placed security sources said here.

New Delhi, June 2: Bangladesh?s history may have taken a slightly different turn had the Mizo National Front (MNF) carried out its decision to execute former President and dictator Zia-ur Rahman.
