KSA's stir threat against ST(H) status to Bodos

GUWAHATI, May 22 ? The Karbi Students? Association (KSA) has decided to ?gherao? the offices of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) on May 29 to compel the elected representatives to ?act positively? on their demands centred on not granting ST(H) status to the Bodos living in the hill district. ?The KSA is determined to launch relentless struggle till the government concedes to the demand raised by the organisation,? CRPF to counter insurgency in NE

GUWAHATI, May 22? The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is preparing itself to take over the responsibility of internal security duty or counter insurgency operations from the Army in the Northeastern region. The Inspector General of CRPF, North Eastern Region, Raj Deep Singh today informed that as per the recommendations made by the Group of Ministers formed by the Central government, the CRPF was expected to relieve the Army of its responsibility to counter the insurgents in the region and other parts of the country as well by the end of the year 2005.

Power crisis in N-E could end forever

Shillong, May 21: The Northeast will witness a power revolution as a number of foreign banks have agreed to fund major power projects in the region.

Revealing this to newsmen today after a meeting with a parliamentary committee on power, chairman-cum-managing director of the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (Neepco) S.C. Poacher nabbed from Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

GUWAHATI, May 20? Forest officials arrested a poacher, wanted in connection with poaching of rhino horns in Nagaon Wildlife Division of Assam recently, official sources said here.

The arrested man, identified as one Md Faizul, was arrested from Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary under Nagaon wildlife division for killing a rhino and removing its horns.
