NEEPCO to regulate power supply to Tripura from April 3

AGARTALA, March 30—Darkness looms large over the state following NEEPCO’s decision to ‘regulate’ power supply to the electricity department from April 3 next. The ‘Regulation of power supply’ in straight words means ‘stoppage or at least drastic reduction of power supply’.

Rebels keep doors open in hostage issue

Imphal, March 29: The Kuki Liberation Army (KLA), abductor of Bonn-based social worker Heinrich Wolfgang, is keeping its doors open for negotiation despite its announcement yesterday that the aid worker would remain in captivity till such time as the integrity of his NGO, Evangelicher Entwicklungs Dienst, was established.

A team of NGOs continued negotiations for Wolfgang’s safe release for the fifth day today at an undisclosed place. No breakthrough could be made during the fourth round of talks yesterday. The team left the state capital early in the morning today to resume negotiations.

Power crisis looms large over Tripura

Agartala, March 29: Tripura is heading for a major power crisis, with the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (Neepco) threatening to cut off electricity supply as the state government has not cleared its dues.

Till February 28, the state power department owed Neepco Rs 92 crore. In a statement, Neepco general manager P.K. Ghosh said despite repeated reminders, the Tripura government has failed to clear its dues. As a result, Neepco has not been able to pay suppliers of natural gas for its thermal plants.
