Final phase poll marred by largescale booth capturing

Imphal, February 21: Sporadic violence and large scale booth capturing marked the final phase polling in 20 hill constituencies today. Repoll is likely to be ordered in more than 50 polling centres of seven constituencies on February 24. Poll percentage is estimated at 70 to 80 percent. Repoll is likely to be held in 12 stations in Tipaimukh; 7 in Henglep, 20 in Singhat, 11 in Saikul, 2 in Chandel and one each in Tadubi and Karong. UNLF claims responsibility for attacks

Imphal, February 21: The proscribed UNLF today said that it is continuing its series of attacks on "Indian occupational forces" uninterrupted. In a release, the outfit said 3 BSF jawans were killed and 4 injured when its army attacked a BSF convoy sent in to Henglep to oversee the "Indian colonial election" in Churachandpur district on February 13.
