AGP for poll pact with NDA sans BJP

GUWAHATI, March 1: The ruling Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is open to forge poll alliance with constituents of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) barring the BJP. The AGP Vice-president Nurul Hussain today informed during a Press conference held at the party headquarter that regional party's allies in the ruling coalition would not oppose to poll alliance with NDA constituents in the State. He, however, did not divulge the names of NDA constituents, the AGP is considering for poll alliance.

Prosecuted Christians flee Myanmar

IMPHAL, March 1: Thousands of Christians, mostly Nagas from the northwest border of Myanmar have been taking shelter in neighbouring Manipur and Nagaland for the last 2-3 years in fear of alleged religious discrimination and prosecutions carried out by the military junta of Myanmar. About 8000 militants surrendered in Assam since 1992

GUWAHATI, March 1: Nearly eight thousand militants belonging to different outfits, including the ULFA, NDFB, BLT, BTF, KNV, DNSF and MULTA, surrendered before the Government since 1992. Official sources said that the surrender process started in the year 1992 and in that year, 3850 militants, all of whom belonged to the ULFA, surrendered. As many as 1986 militants, including 1625 ULFA, 128 NDFB, 42 BLT, 39 BTF, 23 KNV, 58 RNSF, eight GNLF, 13 UPDS and 43 MULTA, surrendered last year.
