Fleeing non-local students stopped by police

Survey re-run on Tipaimukh

IMPHAL, July 18 Manipur Chief Minister W Nipamacha Singh today said his government has ordered another survey of the proposed Tipaimukh dam to determine its height. Tipaimukh project awaits inter-state clearance

Rs 554 lakh NEDFI funds for NE projects

GUWAHATI, August 4: The North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi) has sanctioned projects amounting to Rs 554 lakh in Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur and Assam. An official release said the statewise allocation was: Mizoram Rs 156.30 lakh, Manipur Rs 156 lakh; Tripura Rs 105 lakh and Assam Rs 137 lakh. Centre's step to facilitate NE border trade

32000 families below poverty line in Mizoram

AIZAWL, July 22: Over 32,000 families in Mizoram were identified as living below poverty line, the state food and civil supplies minister Aichhinga said on Wednesday. Altogether 2,455 families of the 32,555 families were living in the state capital alone, he told the House in a written reply. The families living below poverty line would be given ration through the public distribution system (PDS) at half the retail price, he said.

Centre okays 4 hydel projects in Mizoram

AIZAWL, July 22: The Centre has okayed the setting up of four hydel projects in Mizoram, the state deputy chief minister Lalhmingthanga said on Wednesday. Replying to a question in the House, Lalhmingthanga, who also holds the power portfolio, said the cost of one of these projects, the 75-MW Bairabi hydel project, was being assessed. Mizoram govt submits 15 projects

AIZAWL, July 18: The Mizoram Government has submitted 15 projects under the non-lapsable pool fund (NPF) to the Planning Commission for accelerating the development process in the State, official sources said. Compensation for crops destroyed by elephants

Aizawl, July 16: The Mizoram government will give compensation to eight families in Saiha and Lawngtlai districts whose crops have been destroyed by elephants, the state's environment and forests minister Rualchhina informed the Assembly on Friday. In reply to a question by Independent H Rammawi, the minister said that some elephants destroyed paddy and standing crops in the southern parts of the state. Rammawi said "rogue elephants" from the Ngengpui wildlife sanctuary poised a danger to the lives of the local populace besides destroying their crops.
