Mizo House adopts resolution on delimitation

AIZAWL, March 26 — Mizoram Assembly on March 25 unanimously adopted a resolution that the State Assembly polls in 2003 will be held in accordance with the boundaries of the existing constituencies, reports PTI. The official resolution moved by the state Parliamentary Affairs Minister F Malsawma said “This House resolves that the general election of Mizoram legislative assembly in 2003 be held in accordance with the boundaries of the existing constituencies.”

Elephant treatment camps conducted

GUWAHATI, March 11 — The Early Birds has conducted a series of elephant camps for the departmental elephants of the wild life sanctuaries of the state during the last couple of weeks press release said. The 1st camp was held at Pobitora WLS on the January 18 where seven elephants were examined, treated for periodical deworming with appropriate doses, vaccinated for immunising them against FMD for the next six months.

EC asked not to change LAC boundaries in Mizoram

AIZAWL, March 6 — Save Mizoram Committee (SMC), comprising political parties in the State and all the major non-governmental organisations has urged Election Commission consultant K J Rao to respect the wishes of the people and not change the boundaries of the 40 Assembly constituencies, reports PTI.

The committee told Rao that the revised working paper drafted by the Delimitation Commission was not acceptable to the people of Mizoram and the delimitation of constituencies should not be implemented before the State Assembly polls scheduled to be held late this year.

Vanlal Awia has denied having any foreknowledge of the Delimitation Commission?s proposed re-organisation of the state?s Assembly constituencies as insinuated by a local daily. MNF bags 7 seats in 13-member CADC

AIZAWL, Feb 20 – The ruling Mizo National Front has got a majority by bagging seven seats in the 13-member Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) polls held last Friday, reports PTI.

Zo body launch movement against delimitation

AIZAWL, Feb 14 ? A meeting of all the major non-governmental organisations and political parties in Mizoram here Thursday formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) to spearhead a movement protecting delimitation of Assembly constituencies by the Delimitation Committee, reports PTI.

Number of voters goes up in Mizoram

AIZAWL, Feb 3 ? The number of voters in Mizoram has risen to 505584 from the previous year?s total of 481460 registering an increase of 5.01 per cent, reports PTI.

State election office sources here said the increase in the number of voters was recorded after a special summary revision of Mizoram electoral rolls. The highest increase is registered in Aizawl West-ll (ST) reserved constituency where the increase is 15.59 per cent followed by Tlabung reserved constituency near the Bangladesh border which registered an increase of 13.42 per cent.

MNF asks 2 ministers to quit Cabinet

Silchar, Dec. 19: The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) will “relieve” two senior Cabinet members from “ministerial duties” and assign them full-time party work in view of next year’s Assembly polls in Mizoram.

Party president and Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga, addressing the 37th “general assembly” of the MNF in Aizawl yesterday, said home minister Tawnluia and local areas development minister K. Vanlalauva would soon be asked to quit.

Trouble brews in Tripura’s Jampui hills
