Tezpur/Guwahati, Jan. 15: If the numerous fans of Assam’s cultural icon Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla are attracted towards the Rupkonwar by his films, verses and songs, than there is “virtual reality” on the worldwide web to fire their fascination. Guwahati swings to Bihu spirit

Guwahati, Jan. 13: The Bhogali Bihu mood got off to a “hearty” and “sparkling” start today on uruka, unclouded by the dull and hazy weather that has been continuing since the New Year set in. Refusing to let the weather chill the celebration mood, each locality lit glowing bonfires in front of homes, apartment blocks and youth clubs. Guwahati, Dec. 5: Experts on road-building and maintenance are flipping through the pages of history for inspiration from the Ahom monarchs, who built Assam’s most durable roads and bridges. HIV +ve woman gets home, hope in Assam

Guwahati, January 3: To get a roof over her head, Jahnavi Goswami had to go where no HIV-positive person in Assam has ever gone before: into the glare of the public eye.

The 27-year-old, the first person in the state to go public with her HIV-positive status, was given a house to call her own by the state government today, seven years after she was thrown out by her in-laws and refused housing by three landlords who told her they didn’t want ‘‘such a person around’’.

UNICEF refusing to aid police probe in Assam

GUWAHATI, Jan 2 — The UNICEF refused to cooperate with the police enquiry into the cause of deaths of 23 children after a pulse vitamin A immunisation programme in Assam on November 11, 2001.
