History book on Tripura Raj Bhavan

Agartala, 24: A five-member committee has been formed in Tripura to document the history of the Raj Bhavan. The committee, headed by Prof. Sirajuddin Ahmed of Tripura University, will bring out a book entitled History of Raj Bhawan, Agartala. Several meetings have already been held on the project with tribal welfare commissioner G.S.G. Ayengar and former chief engineer N.K. Dutta, who are also members of the committee.

But it surely has taken a lot more than simple philosophising for Arunima Jamatya to reach where she has from a state where 85 per cent of tribal students drop out of school. Tripura hits record dropout rate

Agartala, June 2: Tripura has made a record of sort — though a disheartening one. The state has registered a school dropout rate between Classes I and X at 80 per cent — a whopping 15 per cent higher than the national average. According to official statistics, the rate is even higher at 86 per cent among the tribal students.

Tripura records rise in number of AIDS cases

AGARTALA, April 10– Tripura has recorded an alarming rise in the number of AIDS patients in recent years despite the fact that crores of rupees are being spent on the prevention of the deadly disease. According to the Project Director of the AIDS Control Society, Dr TK Das, there are 70 HIV positive and six full-blown AIDS patients. There were in total eight AIDS patients but two had died recently.

Archaeology sites suffer from neglect

Agartala, Dec. 30: Among the countless victims of insurgency in the interior areas of Tripura are invaluable archaeological treasures and artefacts. The Unokoti hills, an important Saivite site boasting of exquisite sculptures, is next only to Mahabalipuram in South India in its archaeological significance.

New education policy in Tripura

AGARTALA, Dec 21? In an attempt to enable the students of the state to compete in national level, Tripura government has decided to introduce a new education policy online with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Tripura ready for first medical college

AGARTALA, Dec 17 ? The Tripura government is ready to set up the first medical college in the State in a joint venture and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar hoped Wednesday that the approval for it will be given soon by the Union Health ministry, reports PTI.

The medical college would be set up at the BR Ambedkar Hospital here in a joint venture with the Manipal group, Sarkar said after his return from New Delhi Tuesday.

Tripura govt planning to set up medical college

AGARTALA, Dec 10 ? The Tripura Government is contemplating to set up a medical college in the State in collaboration with the Manipal Group. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar held a detailed meeting with the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman KC Pant and Chairman of Manipal Group Dr TA Pai on the matter. Tripura tourism scene worsens

Agartala, Dec. 9: The tourism sector in Tripura has been hit by two unfavourable developments. The income of Comilla View, a tourist lodge in the Kasba area of West Tripura, plummeted after secretary of the department of tourism D.K. Chakraborty banned the system of spot booking at the lodge.

The lodge used to earn around Rs 50,000 per month. However, their income plunged after Chakraborty passed an order banning spot booking and consumption of liquor in the lodge.

New dowry rules for Tripura

Agartala, Dec. 8: The Tripura government will implement Dowry Prohibition Rules, 2003 by appointing officers in each district and one chief dowry prohibition officer here. This will be supplemented by the formation of district-level advisory committees for monitoring marriages.
