Flood situation in State improving

GUWAHATI, June 30 – The overall flood situation in the State has shown signs of improvement today. The water levels of most of the rivers including the Brahmaputra and its major tributaries have receded. However, the mighty river is still flowing above the danger level (DL) at Dibrugarh (14cm) and Dhubri (13 cm). In the Barak valley, the Kushiara is also flowing .02cm above the DL at Karimganj.

Jamiat stays away from berth clamour

Guwahati, June 29: Amid pulls and pressures from various quarters, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi today got a breather when the influential Assam Jamiat-e-Ulema decided not to clamour for ministerial berths. CPI demands two berths in Ibobi govt

Imphal, June 29: The CPI, a partner in the Congress-led Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government in Manipur, has demanded two cabinet berths in the new downsized ministry. The party, which placed its demand before the SPF steering committee, is “confident” of getting its way.

Karbi outfit locks horns with UPDS

Nagaon, June 29: The Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front (KNLF) today said it was ready to call off its indefinite blockade in the two hill districts if voluntary organisations and political parties can dissuade the rival United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) from attacking its activists.
