GUWAHATI, June 24 – Though the decision to computerise and update the National Register of Citizens (NRC), 1951 was taken in a tripartite meeting on the implementation of the Assam Accord way back in 1999, even the process of computerising existing portions of the vital document has not yet been completed.

GUWAHATI, June 24 – The State Government has teamed up with the Meghalaya Government to solve the problems of erosion and flash flood caused by the Basistha-Bahini river in the city. Agartala, 24: A five-member committee has been formed in Tripura to document the history of the Raj Bhavan. The committee, headed by Prof. Sirajuddin Ahmed of Tripura University, will bring out a book entitled History of Raj Bhawan, Agartala. Several meetings have already been held on the project with tribal welfare commissioner G.S.G. Ayengar and former chief engineer N.K. Dutta, who are also members of the committee.

GUWAHATI, June 23 – Following the tragic death of three elephants after being run over by a goods train, senior forest department and N F Railway officials today participated in a joint meeting to review the situation around railway tracks close to forest tracts.

The meeting convened by Conservator of Forests, Central Assam Circle R D S Tanwar, discussed preventive measures that could help stop trains coming into close proximity of elephants.
