The cancer patients of Assam as well as the other States of the North East India are facing problems as two important machines of the B Barooah Cancer Institute have stopped functioning. The machines ? Linear Accelerator and Cobalt machine used for radiation on cancer cells, have been inoperative causing severe hardships for the patients in the region. Khasi 'states' oppose CRC proposal

SHILLONG, May 17? The Federation of Khasi States, apex body of 25 traditional chiefs in the Khasi Hills has rejected the recommendations of the Constitution Review Commission (CRC) providing for representation for the ?Syiems?, ?Myntris? and other traditional heads in the autonomous district councils (ADCs). Talks with ULFA: Centre should adopt NSCN(IM) line, says CM

GUWAHATI, May 17 ? Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said the Centre should apply the same principles to bring the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) to the negotiating table as it had done in the case of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (I-M) in Nagaland. Over 23,000 bighas of Govt land under encroachment in city

GUWAHATI, May 17 ? Almost all the 23,191 bigha, 4 katha and 6 lechas of settlement area of the Government land in Guwahati city is under encroachment. The city has in all 24,283 bighas of Government land which include khas, ceiling surplus and VGR land. The city has two revenue circles ? Guwahati and Dispur. All Government land under the Guwahati Circle, including 110 bighas of hilly land in Kharghuli area, are under encroachment, said official circles here today.
