ILS to be installed at Dimapur airport

DIMAPUR, Feb 11 ? Delays and frequent cancellation of flights to and from Dimapur, the commercial hub of Nagaland, would be a thing of the past with the arrival of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) to be installed at the Dimapur Airport over the next couple of months. The Park Air Systems manufactured equipment arrived here in three truckloads recently. The ILS comprising of two parts the localizer and the glide part including DME (distance measuring equipment) would be set up at the northern and southern ends of the runway to facilitate the safe landing of aircraft during inclement weather...

AIDS menace looms large in Nagaland

KOHIMA, Jan 30 ? Incidence of HIV infection among intravenous drug users (IVDU) has registered a declining trend but the ante-natal cases and the spread of the dreaded disease through sex is on the rise in Nagaland, the sixth most-affected state by HIV/AIDS in the country. The incidence of HIV infection among drug users appears to be reducing due to greater awareness and targeted intervention projects carried out by NGOs and Nagaland AIDS Control Society, state chapter of National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) for the past couple of years, according to official sources here.

Dimapur airport set for facelift

Dimapur, Jan. 18: The Dimapur Airport Advisory Committee has decided to introduce a slew of measures to enhance services and facilities at the airport. In a recent meeting, the committee discussed the lack of facilities for passengers at the airport. The meeting was necessitated by an increase in flight services with the introduction of ATR aircraft.

The meeting, chaired by the lone Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland, C. Apok Jamir, discussed issues like passenger services, transportation problems, hygiene, maintenance of essential services, layout and illumination of the airport.
