Oil extraction at Kolapani; Nagaland opposes ONGC operations

KOHIMA, March 18: The ONGC has so far drilled 30 exploratory oil wells at Changpang area under Wokha district, out of which nine were producing oil on trial basis but had been suspended since 1994, reports UNI. Ban on commercial exploitation of forests; Nagaland moves Centre

KOHIMA, March 5: Nagaland Forests Minister TR Zeliang has urged the Centre to revive the Supreme Court's order restricting commercial exploitation of forests in the State in view of special status enshrined in the Constitution, reports PTI. NE states demand lifting of curbs on foreign tourists

NEW DELHI, August 6: After the Central Government's permission to allow foreigners to visit Nagaland, the Union Home and Tourism Ministries have received demands for lifting restrictions on the foreign tourists in other Northeastern states as well. Coffee cultivation in NE dwindling

GUWAHATI, July 17: Way back in the 1990s, there were at least 10,000 hectare of land under coffee cultivation in the Northeast. Today it is just about 3,000 hectare. Production, which should ideally have been in the range of 4,000 tons a year, hovers around the 400 tons mark. But these are only rough estimates.
