Probe into Kokrajhar killings ordered

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 3 — The State government has ordered a magisterial enquiry into the brutal killings of five villagers in Kokrajhar district yesterday. Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Home, Sri Pradyut Bordoloi accompanied by Lower Assam Commissioner, Sri P P Verma visited the area to take stock of the situation. Sri Bordoloi assured the people that the State government would take all possible steps to find out the fact.

5 shot by NDFB in Kokrajhar

GUWAHATI, Feb 2 – In their continued attack on non-Bodos, National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants killed five persons in lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district today. Official sources said five persons of Nepali-origin had gone to the Chirang reserve forest near Ultapani to collect firewoods when the militants shot and killed them on the spot.

ULFA, UPDS to launch joint operations against security forces

GUWAHATI, Jan 31 – The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and the United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) have come to an agreement to launch joint operations against the security forces, highly-placed official sources disclosed today. BSF deployment along Bhutan border soon

NEW DELHI, Jan 30 — Border Security Force (BSF) is likely to be deployed along the Indo-Bhutan border shortly in a bid to check the free movement of insurgents across the international border in the State, even as Assam Government sought additional para-military forces. At a meeting with Union Home Minister LK Advani, Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi briefed him about the prevailing situation in the State in the wake of the sudden spurt in killings by the underground outfits including the ULFA and the NDFB militants.

Militants’ bases in Bhutan making anti-insurgency operations difficult

GUWAHATI, Jan 30 — The police and the security forces are fighting insurgency with their hands tied because of the militants’ bases in the neighbouring country, Bhutan, said Minister of State for Home, Pradyut Bordoloi. Govt agents trying to broker talks: NDFB

GUWAHATI, Jan 28 — Some “agents” of the Government of India are trying to meet the leaders of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) for talks and the leaders of the outfit may talk to them shortly. DSP, driver killed in bomb blast in Assam

GUWAHATI, Jan 27 – Two policemen, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Kamrup District, Sri Devajit Pathak, and the driver of his vehicle Sri Digbijoy Dutta, were killed, while 21 others were injured, six of them seriously, in three separate incidents of extremist bomb blasts in the State today. UPDS leader shot dead

TURA, Jan 24 — Unidentified gunmen shot dead Gandhi Teron, vice-chairman of the United Peoples Democratic Society (UPDS) at his residence at Monitilla village in Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday around 8.15 pm, according to reports available here. Teron was one of the UPDS leaders in favour of talks with the Government and it is suspected that he was killed at the behest of those opposing dialogue. Police recovered empty cartriogdes of AK-47 rifles from the site of the incident. Vigorous investigation was on, police said.

Security along Bhutan border to be beefed up

UDALGURI, Jan 23 – Security vigil along the 265-long Indo-Bhutan border will be tightened to stop the militants from perpetrating henious crimes like the massacre of innocents at No. 3 Borigaon and Bijni once again. Udalguri massacre toll goes up to 18
