Arunachal elephant population on the rise

ITANAGAR, March 11: Elephant census which has started in Arunachal Pradesh will be completed by March 20, official sources said, reports UNI. The population of elephants has gone up in the State considerably. Out of an estimated 2,700 panchyderms throughout the State, 527 are found in Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary in East Kameng district alone. Of late, wild elephants are creating havoc in the State, specially in the foothill areas, claiming several human lives, besides damaging crops and human dwellings. MTDC not a sick unit, say employees

SHILLONG, March 10: The Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation Employees' Union has opposed the government's branding of the corporation as a sick unit and its bid to privatise it. Addressing a news conference here, union president S.D. Marbaniang and its other members denied that the corporation was a loss-making unit. BJP chief accused of misusing relief fund

AIZAWL, March 10: Senior BJP leaders of Mizoram have alleged that the State unit chief Ramtiama has misused Rs 1.2 lakh of the 'Gujarat relief fund' collected by the party workers, reports PTI. Mithi assumes Home charge

ITANAGAR, March 10: Arunahcal Pradesh Chief Minister, Mukut Mithi took charge of the Home affairs in addition to his other portfolios on Thursday, reports PTI. In a notification, Kamen Dolo was divested of Home portfolio which was taken over by Mithi. Dolo, however, would retain the portfolio of Fisheries Ministry. This was the first reshuffle of the Ministry since it came to power in October 1999.
