New finance panel set up in Manipur

Imphal, Jan. 4: The Manipur government today constituted the state finance commission with former bureaucrat S.S. Sharma as chairman. Sharma is a retired state secretary for youth affairs and a former secretary at the Centre. The other three members are economists M. Iboton Singh and O.P. Commandos attacked; highwaymen strike again in Manipur

Imphal, December 21: A group of suspected militants attacked a convoy of police commandos with bombs at a spot between S Kotlan and Torbung under Churachandpur Police Station at about 12.45 pm today. 26.53 lakh Manipur villagers live in below poverty line

Imphal, July 01: A report by the Planning Commission of India on the number and percentage of population below poverty line for the year 1999-2000 has indicated that state government needs to give more emphasis to development activities in the rural areas than urban areas to justify the meaning of a welfare state.
