AGARTALA, June 25 – The flood situation in Tripura took a turn for the worse with the death toll rising to three even as many villages were inundated, rendering thousands of people homeless, official sources said. The Assam-Agartala national highway, considered to be the lifeline of Tripura, was cut-off from rest of the country due to landslides and waterlogging at Ranirbazar in West Tripura district while Sai Radhanagar, Subhashnagar, Katakhal and Orient Chowmuhani areas remained waterlogged.

Agartala, May 27: Environmental degradation is well on course to replace insurgency as the burning problem in Tripura. Stating this at a seminar on Solid Waste Management to Combat Water Pollution in Tripura, US consul-general in Calcutta George Neil Sibley said the failure to manage the growing solid waste in the capital and other urban areas was beginning to pose serious health hazards.

Agartala, April 7: The forest department of Tripura has urged the Centre to sanction funds for three more wildlife sanctuaries, in addition to the existing four.
