Centre to convene meet with NE CMs

GUWAHATI, January 17: The Government of India is likely to convene a meeting involving Chief Ministers of the Northeastern states to discuss the issue of 'ceasefire without territorial limit' as has been insisted by the NSCN(IM) engaged in peace talks with the government. NEW DELHI, January 16: The Government of India today suggested setting up of a Boundary Commission with specific terms of reference to settle the boundary dispute of Assam with the neighbouring States of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. NE states demand lifting of curbs on foreign tourists

NEW DELHI, August 6: After the Central Government's permission to allow foreigners to visit Nagaland, the Union Home and Tourism Ministries have received demands for lifting restrictions on the foreign tourists in other Northeastern states as well. These states, including Manipur, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, have made a beeline for the two Ministries, and requested that foreigners should be allowed a free access in order to boost tourism. Probe instituted into attempted CAU exodus

IMPHAL, August 4: A one man enquiry committee to be headed by the deputy director general of the Indian Council of Agricultural research, ICAR, SL Mehta, has been instituted to investigate the reasons behind the attempted mass exodus of non local hostellers of the Central Agricultural University, CAU, at Iroishemba, according to a CAU press release. Assam moves SC against Arunachal, Nagaland

Omen appointed AICC secretary

ITANAGAR, August 29: The Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, has appointed Omen Deori as secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC), party sources here said.
